“Supporting our community is fundamental to our mission, and we are committed to assisting our youth members in pursuing higher education. It’s an essential part of what we do at San Francisco Federal Credit Union.”
Ray Shams, President, and CEO, San Francisco Federal Credit Union
Attaining a higher education gets more expensive every year, whether going in-state or out. San Francisco Federal Credit Union values education, which is why we established the Youth Scholarship Program, to provide financial assistance to students who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs. Since the program began in 2000, we have awarded nearly $190,000 to high school seniors who live, 去上学, or worship in San Francisco and San Mateo counties.
Scholarship applicants must be members of the San Francisco Federal Credit Union and are selected on a number of criteria, including academic record, participation in school and community activities, and life goals and aspirations. Financial need is not considered.

Congratulations to the 2023 Scholarship Recipients: Magdalena (Maggie) Olsen, Rycklon(右.J.) Stephens and Ivana Xu!
Rycklon(右.J.) Stephens will be attending UC Berkeley.
“This scholarship will greatly help cover my college expenses at UC Berkeley. I was blessed to be offered a Preferred Walk On on the football team, but I still must pay for school. This is going to greatly help me pursue my athletic career while also continuing my academic goals. I want to major in economics and have my own business someday! It also helps me continue my passion for leadership by being able to join certain groups on campus. 在高中时, I was co-president of the Black Student Union, and now at UC Berkeley, I’m already on the board for the Black Student-Athletes at Cal group. 整体, this scholarship will allow me to keep growing into the person I want to be and will help me discover new paths.”
Ivana Xu will be attending UC Irvine
“In the fall, I will be majoring in Environmental Engineering. I am grateful for the San Francisco Federal Credit Union for supporting my pursuit of higher education. This will go towards tuition costs to alleviate the financial burdens on me and my family. 在过去, I have worked on many environmental activism projects, one being a video on algae blooms environmental justice in North Carolina that was displayed at a museum. I hope to continue advocating for a cleaner environment and more precautionary actions to protect marginalized communities that are affected by environmental issues.”
Magdalena (Maggie) Olsen will be attending Syracuse University
“This scholarship will be very helpful in aiding my family and I to pay for my college tuition. I will be starting my freshman year at Syracuse University this fall, majoring in Studio Arts which is a dream of mine. Art is very important to me and who I am as a person, and I am excited to further my knowledge and exploration in college. Throughout high school art has been very integral in my success as a student and my involvement in school activities. I have spent many hours volunteering at school helping with multiple temporary and permanent murals on campus. This scholarship will help me in my pursuit of my degree, especially within my first year and for that I am very grateful.”
